Blogging help needed
I am hoping that a seasoned blogger might happen upon this post and be able to help me. I have been receiving comments in Asian writing (I tried an online translator and they are always gibberish/spammy comments), on one particular post, daily for a few months now. All my comments are moderated to avoid spam so this is mostly an annoyance, but I would like to know if there is a way to block this from happening. I prefer not to resort to using captcha and I would rather not block anonymous comments. The only solution I have been able to come up with is to delete the post that keeps generating these comments, but I am trying to avoid that as well. Do any of you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help.

Blogger doesn't have any addons for catching spam? I use Wordpress, and I downloaded an add-on called Akismet that blocks spam. It catches about 99.8% of spam comments, but it does save them so I can check and make sure it didn't block any legitimate comments (which it hasn't).
ReplyDeleteI know that won't help you since you use Blogger, but surely they have something you can use to catch spam that doesn't involve using Captcha. I don't know if they have Akismet for different platforms, but it would be worth checking, because it does a great job keeping my blogs spam free.
I just stopped accepting anonymous comments and those darn spammers went buh-bye. I haven't seen a drop in real comments by doing that either.
ReplyDeleteThank you both for your advice. I am going to continue trying to figure this out. I will look into Akismet as well as reading my "Blogging for Dummies" book to see what I can do.
ReplyDeleteI am considering putting a stop to anonymous comments. My only concern is that these comments are being left by someone with a name that is written in Asian characters, so I am not sure if they are anonymous or not. I guess I will find out when I try it :)
